Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCR) complement the general PEF method by providing further specification at the level of a specific product category.
The rules helps to place the focus of the studies on aspects and parameters that matter the most, and hence contribute to increased relevance, reproductibility, and consistency of the results.
The key step of the development of the PEFCR is the representative product, i.e. the average product sold in the EU market that is representative for the considered product group.
It may be a real or a virtual product, and serves as the benchmark against which the environmental performance of other products is compared.
