Definition

During life cycle impact assessment stage of a LCA, the information collected from the life cycle inventory of a product (or an organization) are grouped and aggregated to assess their respective contributions to impact categories. The EF impact categories are able to cover a broad range of relevant environmental issues.

The categories were selected through a rigorous process involving the review of existing practices, consultations with stakeholders, and specific selection criteria. Although they are not explicitly designed to correspond directly to the planetary boundaries, they nevertheless cover critical aspects of environmental impacts that are aligned with the concerns raised by these boundaries.

Categories

This table show the impacts categories included in PEF/OEF and details of the methods and indicators used to assess them.
